Public meetings on future of John Wayne Trail scheduled
Private property owners, local citizens and trail advocates will have the opportunity to have their voices heard during a series of upcoming community forums, sponsored by Rep. Joe Schmick, R-Colfax, and the Tekoa Trail and Trestle Association.
“We know the state parks department has their own process in place to gather input and make determinations about the parks and land they have jurisdiction over,” said Schmick. “We acknowledge the work they're doing and will continue to do to find an equitable solution to the John Wayne Trail issue. However, we felt there could be a more personal, less informal way of gathering information from the public. We want to hear from the local residents, trail users, land owners, local government officials and concerned citizens. This series of meetings will give more opportunity for their voices to be heard.”
The upcoming public meetings are as follows:
1) Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 12:00 p.m. at the Rosalia, Community Center (7th St. and Whitman Ave.)
2) Monday, Nov. 16 at 12:00 p.m. at the Lind, Union Elevator Conference room (201 S Street)
3) Monday, Nov. 23 at 6:00 p.m. at Hal Holmes Center in Ellensburg (209 N Ruby St.)
