House Republican health care leader issues statement on Inslee’s vaping ban

At a Seattle press conference Friday, the governor announced a ban on a variety of vaping and e-cigarette products. The executive order directs the Washington State Board of Health to use its emergency authority to prevent the sale and distribution of all flavored vaping products when they meet next on Oct. 9.

Rep. Joe Schmick, R-Colfax and ranking member on the House Health Care and Wellness Committee issued the following statement regarding the governor’s announcement:

“I’m not sure another lawsuit by our attorney general is the way to go.  But we do need to figure who – or what – the bad actors are and address the health issues immediately.

“There is a sense of urgency to identify the ingredient, or ingredients, causing these problems.  This is certainly something we are concerned about.  However, the governor’s ban does nothing for the products that can be purchased on the street.  This won’t affect the black-market producers.

“That being said, it is refreshing to see the governor back in our state showing concern about Washington citizens.”
