Rep. Schmick’s amendment to operating budget proposal would reimburse farmers for increased fuel costs due to climate commitment act.

As lawmakers debate ESSB 5187, the 2023-25 operating budget, Rep. Joe Schmick, R-Colfax, sponsors an amendment to reimburse farmers for increased fuel costs due to the climate commitment act. Farmers are supposed to be exempt from these increased costs, but the Dept. of Ecology has failed to shield the agriculture community from these increased costs. Schmick's amendment was not accepted by majority Democrats.
