Rep. Schmick says recycling bill will drive people in his district to Idaho along with their money

Rep. Joe Schmick, R-Colfax, says SB 5284, known as the ‘mandatory recycling bill,’ will drive economic activity from his border district into Idaho as residents seek cheaper gas, groceries, and restaurants. The bill contains mandatory recycling requirements along with demands that industries pay more of the recycling costs. Schmick and others believe those costs will be passed on to consumers and as a result, impact the poor the most. Schmick said it’s going to dramatically harm small businesses in his district as folks go a few miles across the border to Idaho. He calls it The Idaho Economic Development Act.
